Go Holbrook Little League!
We just wanted to give a shout-out to Holbrook Little League this year. Multiple teams have made it through the ranks and have done well in regional and state tournaments. In fact, two teams are still competing; the 8-10 team and the Majors team. The Majors team competes tomorrow in Payson.
If you want to keep up-to-date on the official scores and brackets, we recommend going to this website here. Brackets are organized by age ranges and teams.
If you want to see photos and other updates, we recommend visiting the local little league’s Facebook page here.
It looks like there are no options to stream the game. Just like how die-hard Swifties watch the Eras tour, you may need to find a friend or other local who goes live from their phone and streams the game that way.
Holiday Weekend Recap
We wrote about some happenings around Holbrook this weekend. Here it is again as a reference.
What city-run facilities are open on July 4? The public swimming pool will be closed, but the golf course, parks, and splash pad are open as usual. Petroglyph Park is hosting tours during the summer, but won’t be available on July 4, but July 5th and 6th are potential days to see some petroglyphs. Tours are $25 per person. Contact Dawn Sawyer at 928-241-1436 for tour availability and times.
Is the Holbrook bike parade/fair still on? Yes! Confirmed by the Mayor and the Kiwanis Club, the bike parade will begin around 8:30am with games following at 9:00. No confirmation on what water games/activities will be there yet, but in the past attendees have seen water slides, dunk tanks, cornhole games, and other fair-like activities. The author is really hoping for free otter pops.
Will the Petrified Forest be open? The park confirms yes. You could also take visitors to the Cultural Demonstrations that take place between 10am and 3pm. The cultural demonstrations showcase beading, painting, weaving, basketry, silversmithing, dancing, and storytelling. As a head’s up though, schedules can be changed without notice. We recommend giving the park a call before you go.
Could you remind me about the fire department’s events? The Fireman’s BBQ is confirmed by the fire chief that this long Holbrook tradition is good to go this July 4 and they’ll start serving around 11am. Fireworks will also start after dusk (usually around 8:00, but can sometimes take longer. If you know, you know). Arguably the best views are still near the county complex, but there are many spots around town where families have made it a tradition to watch.
Anything notable outside of Holbrook?
Joseph City has a lot going on for July 4. Visitors can expect a parade (7:30am), Color Run (reg. at 8:35am), water activities, dunk tank, fishing pond, and gem pool (9:00am), Volleyball and Horseshoe tournaments (9:30am), Food trucks (10am), Cornhole Tournament (10:30am), and a basketball tournament and city pool open swim (1-4pm). Way to go Joseph City!
Rock Art Ranch will be open on July 4, but tours need to be scheduled in advance. At the time of calling, Rock Art Ranch did have availability on July 4, but tours fill up fast! Give them a call at (928) 386-5047.
Taylor, AZ has their annual rodeo and fair but that celebration starts July 5th and goes through July 6th.
Flagstaff, AZ is having a fairly large EDM/Techno festival (definitely not family friendly haha) that is usually in CA but has been moved to Flagstaff this year and starts on July 4. We may see a crowd traveling through Holbrook as they travel to this Desert Hearts Festival. Apart from that, Flagstaff does have a lot to offer on July 4 if you’re wanting to experience those slightly-cooler temperatures.
This could be your story
